Accelerating Climate Action: A Workshop for Community, Business, and Education Leaders

Affiliate Event of the Global Climate Action Summit

This workshop is a forum for community, business, and education leaders to showcase and explore models that build social will and capacities needed to assist communities and businesses in reaching the net zero emissions by 2050 needed to achieve the Paris Agreement’s aspiration for a 1.5 degree world. Participants will work together to develop options for integrating climate change education, community engagement, and workforce development activities into local climate action plans with the goal of accelerating and supporting place-based climate solutions.

Workshop objectives are to:

  • Explore how climate change education, community engagement, and workforce development programs are assisting communities in their ambitious climate action goals for the coming decades; and
  • Identify how community and business leaders can work with climate change education professionals to meet the goals of local and regional climate action plans.

Effective climate change education, civic engagement, and workforce development are critical for communities to reach their climate action goals. The event will support community leaders by connecting them with effective climate change education partnerships and U.S. climate education leaders, who are supporting communities to seize the opportunities of a post-carbon and climate resilient future.

This event is primarily supported by the National Science Foundation-funded Climate Change Education Partnership (CCEP) Alliance and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, in coordination with the Tri-Agency Climate Change Education Collaborative, and the Climate Literacy and Energy Awareness Network (CLEAN). The organizers are joined by colleagues from across the nation’s climate education community who have synthesized a decade of federal agency and philanthropic literacy initiatives to support the event’s outcomes.
